One of the joys of living in Granada is how easy it is to mix work with exploring the city. This past weekend, my girlfriend came to visit, and it was a perfect opportunity to combine sightseeing with discovering spots I can also imagine working from.
On Saturday, we spent the day wandering around the city centre, which is full of narrow, Moroccan-style streets lined with tight shops and stalls. The energy and colours of the marketplace make it a vibrant place to explore, and it is easy to see how locals and visitors alike find inspiration in the details. We also visited the Cathedral, both inside and out. The architecture is stunning and a reminder of Granada’s rich history. Walking through the streets and seeing the mix of traditional and modern shops, I felt grateful for how walkable the city is, making it easy to pop between cafés, coworking spots, and cultural sites.
That evening, we headed to a flamenco show at Cueva Los Amayas in the Sacromonte. The 8 PM performance included an hour of traditional music, singing, and dancing, plus a drink. Experiencing flamenco in such an intimate setting was unforgettable and reminded me how much local culture can inspire creativity, something I often think about when working at the coworking space in Granada ANDA CoWork. On the way home, we stopped to admire the Alhambra lit up at night and the city views from the San Nicolas viewpoint. Even though it was raining heavily, the walk back did not feel long. The dramatic atmosphere of the city in the rain made it magical.
On Sunday, we visited the Alhambra, the most iconic tourist site in Granada. Originally built as a fortress in the 13th century, it was later developed into a royal palace by the Nasrid dynasty. Walking through the palaces, courtyards, and gardens gives a glimpse into the incredible artistry and architectural sophistication of Moorish Spain. The intricate decorations, ornate arches, and panoramic views over the city make it an unforgettable experience for visitors.
Later in the day, we visited the Hammam Al Ándalus Granada, located in a cave in the cliffs of the city. This traditional bathhouse offers steam rooms, Arabic tea, and four baths of different temperatures. Massages are also available as an added extra. The calming atmosphere and soothing baths provided a perfect contrast to a busy day of sightseeing and allowed us to relax and unwind in a truly unique setting.
Afterwards, on the walk home, we stopped at various tapas bars, sampling local food and drinks while taking in the lively atmosphere of the streets. These moments highlighted how Granada effortlessly blends culture, relaxation, and social life.
Even on weekends like this, it is easy to imagine working in different parts of the city. Cafés, viewpoints, and quiet corners in cultural spaces double as areas for reflection, planning, or catching up on emails while soaking in the surroundings. It is this balance between productivity and discovery that makes living and working in Granada so enjoyable.
